When I was young, real estate was one of the common ways to be rich in Hong Kong
🏨 Because it is the only asset that you can have a high leverage on and you can refinance once your property increases in value (correct me if I am wrong..)
(You can pay as low as 10% down payment and mortgage the rest)
✍ There was this old saying
“Once you own 3 properties, you can retire” 一生三宅
🏠 One for you to stay and two for you to receive rental income
That’s why one of my goals after I graduated was to save enough money to buy a property
📅 I remember in my 4th year of recruitment, I finally saved enough downpayment for my first mini property
After paying all the fees including lawyers and agent’s commission, I remember my bank account was only left with HK$20,000 as my emergency fund
✏️ That was one of my poorest moment in my life
Yet because of having mortgage + responsibility
💪 It also motivates me to work harder in life
Sometimes I wonder if having more responsibilities drives one to grow?
Or
Is it better to have no responsibility so you can take bigger risks and bets on yourself?
💡 How about you?
💡 What were some of the moments that motivated you to work harder in life or at your career?
