💡 “Why Do We Need to Work 12 Hours a Day?”

ree

A fresh graduate recently asked me this question, and it stopped me in my tracks.

He had just entered the job market and shared his frustration:

1. It’s already hard for fresh graduates to find a job.

2. And for those who do, many end up working 12 hours a day for a low paycheque.

I loved his honesty and his courage to question the status quo.

🌱 My Story

When I graduated, I didn’t have wealthy parents to fall back on. Rent and living expenses meant I had to find a job immediately.

At the time, my speed dating company only generated a few thousand dollars.

Not nearly enough to survive.

So my only option was to work.

But here’s what I told him:

👉 You don’t necessarily need to work 12 hours a day if you can find other options to cover your expenses.

👉 The usual entry point is a job, freelancing, or part‑time work and then you expand.

👉 Once you earn enough, you gain the freedom to walk away from toxic environments and design a life on your own terms.

Even after 10 years in the workforce, I’m still working towards that freedom and dignity.

And that’s okay because it’s a journey.

✨ The Bigger Lesson

Talking to young people always inspires me.

They’re genuine, curious, and unafraid to ask tough questions.

And sometimes, those questions remind us to reflect on our own choices.

💬 What’s the most interesting question you’ve been asked by a young graduate?
