I wanted to share a case that happened to me and my candidate

And reiterated the importance of having good referees and reputation in your career šŸ’¼Ā

šŸ“‘ Even though it is more common that we see employees suing their employers for being made redundant,Ā 


Ā 


I still think it is wise to maintain a good relationship with your ex-employers and not burn the bridges.



Ā 


ā³ A year ago, my candidate passed all 6 rounds of interviews and was put to background check and reference checkĀ 


Ā 


šŸ“¢ Verbal offer was released on the condition of clear credit check and good reference check


Ā 



My candidate provided 2 referees whom he thought would say good things about him to my client.


Ā 


My client performed the reference check and immediately rescinded the verbal offer.


Ā 


šŸ’” Turned out:


Ā 


One of the referees made a negative comment about my candidate and hence making him lose out on a great opportunity


Ā 


Ā 


šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø šŸ”Š Lessons Learnt:


Ā 


- Remember to pick your referees wisely


Ā 


- Your referees might say good things about you in front of you


Ā 


- But you might want to have others or recruiters to check whether it is true or not (My fault for not doing a reference check for him again before proceeding to client)

- Never burn bridges šŸŒ‰Ā
