🚨🚨My BIGGEST CAREER MISTAKE: I didn’t double down when things were in my favour🚨🚨

Looking back, I have worked for 9 years since graduation.

🧠 I regret not doubling down my effort when things were smooth for me

🧠 I got complacent and lazy when times were good

🧠 Today, I wanted to share my 2 real life career mistakes

I don’t want you to repeat my mistakes and miss out on good opportunities to progress further in your career.

⏰ 1st Mistake:

I regret not doubling my effort to close more recruitment deals in a good market back in 2019 – 2023.

Why?

In a good market:

🔴 Clients came to us

🔴 Clients never bargain on our fees

🔴 Clients gave a generous increment on candidates’ salary

I got complacent when business was easy because

I was naïve to think that the market will be like this forever – 

🔥Always an UP market 

🔥Always good bonus every quarter

And

I was lazy to push myself further to make more money, thinking my revenue was already good enough – Why bother?

Then recession hit late last year for many countries: 

🔴 Layoffs/ Restructuring

🔴 Headcount freeze

🔴 Replacing expensive staff with cheaper ones

My discretionary bonuses dropped.

⏰ 2nd Mistake:

When I was working at Citi, I blogged for fun about my daily life.

💰 I received blogging income. At best, I received USD100 for one post.

Then again, when I was young, I thought – Maybe I would take a 6 months’ break from blogging. 

Juggling a full time job with blogging after work was intense. 

🎉I should party instead of grinding when I was young!

I gave myself excuse again to slack off and not ride on the good waves when things were working in my favour.

✍🏻 6 months later, I blogged again 

but the revenue was gone because the traffic was no longer there.

Looking back,

What I learnt:

✅ The moment you found a method to succeed, DOUBLE DOWN and grind it on

✅ Never give up because you had a taste of small success, thinking it will last forever

✅ The market always changes and you never know what’s next

✅ For example, when you found out a sales method that generated you good leads, DOUBLE down

✅ When you are progressing in your career quickly because of external factors, double down and work harder to promote as quickly as you can

🔥 I promise myself, starting from today, if I found out ways that are working for me again, I will double down my time and effort and max out this opportunity!
