Back when I first graduated and joined Citi’s ICG Management Associate Program, I found myself surrounded by single friends in the banking industry.
💡 That’s when I had a lightbulb moment:
Why not turn matchmaking into a side hustle?
I started charging a modest HK$500 per date setup
It was fun at first
Referrals came in quickly and I enjoyed matchmaking people
But as the “business” grew, so did the demands.
I began getting questions like:
🔹 “Can you introduce me to someone pretty?”
🔹 “I only want to meet wealthy or good-looking people.”
Suddenly, I was spending hours managing expectations, answering questions, and navigating unrealistic demands....
All for HK$500......... (Especially you know there are many people who disappear after asking questions)
The ROI just didn’t make sense anymore.
So I stopped matchmaking as a side hustle
because the ROI in recruitment is higher than matchmaking
💰 The effort was similar, but the value of the service and the fee was significantly higher.
Recruitment taught me to focus on high ROI activities
or
Maybe I haven't found a way to charge matchmaking higher than my recruitment fees!
If you’re going to invest your time and energy, make sure the value you’re delivering and receiving is worth it!
