🌱 Overcoming My Self‑Doubt: When My Confidence Hit Rock Bottom

In recruitment, it’s common practice to meet clients even when they’re not hiring
Because relationships matter
The stronger the bond, the more likely they’ll think of us when the time comes.
But I’ll be honest:
In the past, I only met clients when they had active hiring needs.
The market was booming, I was busy.
I thought efficiency mattered more than relationship‑building.
Then 2024 happened.
Layoffs, downsizing, restructuring.
The worst recruitment market I’ve ever seen.
My confidence dropped.
I still remember attending a client meeting years ago that made my confidence even go straight to the bottom.
A client told me upfront she wasn’t hiring but was happy to hear market intel.
After I shared insights, she looked at me and said:
“I’m not hiring at all, and I don’t know why recruiters would still want to spend their time meeting me. It makes no sense.”
That sentence cut deep.
My confidence dropped to the lowest point.
I even questioned if I was a good recruiter at all.
Then I realised self-belief and optimism are important to inject hope and confidence:
🌱 I reminded myself that planting seeds today leads to opportunities tomorrow.
📅 I committed to meeting one new client every day, no matter what.
💡 I told myself that even if recruitment disappeared, I could reinvent myself elsewhere.
Self‑belief and optimism became my anchors.
In a slow economy, when negative headlines outweigh positive ones, hope is not optional, it’s survival.
If you’re struggling with self‑doubt, know this: confidence isn’t built in good times, it’s forged in the tough ones.
✨ My hope is that this story injects a little optimism into your journey.
What about you?
