🤒 Falling Sick.... I have been trading time for money

Last Tuesday, I fell sick.
It started with a sudden chill in the office.
Then throughout the day, I kept swinging between hot and cold.
One moment I was sweating, the next moment I was shivering.
For the next few days, I could barely work.
Yet the reality of recruitment is that clients still had inquiries, CVs needed to be sent, candidates to search for, and event invitations waiting.
That’s when I felt helpless.
My work is all about trading time for money.
Falling sick in Q4? Fine.. because it is non-peak season.
But falling sick in Q3, when the market is moving fast, was frustrating.
Three days of downtime meant lost potential income!!
During those unproductive days, competitors could have sent better CVs.
Clients might have walked away because of my slower response.
That’s the downside of a career model built purely on time-for-money.
Even though I love my work, I realised I need to find ways to mitigate downtime risk.
Unlike friends who run businesses selling products (whether physical or digital), they still earn even during typhoon 10 or black rain.
This experience reminded me:
- To think about how I can productise myself.
- To build systems that allow me to keep working even if I fall sick again.
- To take better care of my health so I don’t fall sick so easily. 🌱
👉 Have you ever had the same thought when you were sick, that your downtime could cost you opportunities?
