Are You Interviewing Elsewhere? 🤔

How would you answer this interview question?
Last Friday, one of my candidates faced an interview that made her quite nervous
She was recently restructured and was eager to land a job ASAP ⏳
With a stable work history and minimal interview experience, her skills weren’t as sharp as those of candidates who frequently interview
She prepared thoroughly, researching the interviewer, the company background and the latest news 📚
However, she was caught off guard by unexpected questions, such as:
- Are you interviewing somewhere else?
- Are you okay with taking a pay cut? 💰
- Why didn’t you start looking for a job when you knew your department would be outsourced?
- What are you looking for in your next job? 🌟
- What is your biggest weakness?
Answering these questions too honestly can sometimes create the wrong impression
🧠 As candidates, we need to be strategic in our responses and manage the conversation effectively
Unfortunately, my candidate was too nervous and candid, sharing that she wanted to find a job as soon as possible regardless of the pay
The interview lasted just 20 minutes—definitely not a good sign! 🚩
I encouraged her to treat this interview as a learning experience for the next one
🤳 If you have an interview coming up, I highly encourage you to prepare well!
