🌍 Shifting My Mindset: To Scale Globally and To Progress
Yesterday, I had the honour of being a Regional Judge for the Enactus startup competition among university students.
My role was to select the best team to represent Hong Kong on the global stage.
Last year, when I judged the Global Enactus competition in Bangkok, I realised something important:
Hong Kong teams had strong preparation, but our mindset wasn’t “large” or “scalable” enough compared to other countries.
🏠 While we focused on local ideas like properties or boardgames, global teams tackled issues like sustainability and climate change.
And here’s the truth: I also need to improve.
I once thought I was a great judge locally.
🌏 But when I compared myself to global judges, I realised I was far behind.
They asked consistent, concise questions from start to finish.
Me?
I started strong, but lost focus midway because I was tired.
That was a wake‑up call.
💡 My Mindset Shifts
1. Step outside the local bubble.
If you think you’re the best locally, test yourself globally.
That’s when you’ll see the real gap.
2. Dream bigger.
For years, my goal was financial freedom.
But reaching “basic financial freedom” made me realise it’s not the endgame.
The real deal is pursuing meaningful work and contributing back to society.
🔥 One global judge shared with me that he’s been sponsoring students’ projects for years.
Meanwhile, I was saving money just to hit financial freedom.
His story made me reflect:
Bigger goals should be about impact, contribution, and helping the next generation thrive.
👉 This experience reminded me:
Progress isn’t just about working harder.
It’s about thinking bigger, scaling wider, and contributing deeper.
If you are already top of the game in your country or area, maybe it's time to test and challenge yourself by going beyond your city or country.
