š Never Celebrate Too Early: A Lesson From a Deal That Fell Through

I was a day late in posting this update because one of my recent deals fell through.
Hereās what happened:
- My client met with my candidate and gave glowing feedback after the final round
- We were already discussing salary, the offer rate, and even asking for salary proof
- On the surface, it looked like the deal was closing. I was already feeling happy, thinking commission was around the corner.
Then, just one day before contract signing, the client called.
āThere have been some internal changes. Weāre cancelling this headcount.ā
When I asked why, the answer was simply: confidential.
It was tough especially because my candidate was excited and looking forward to this opportunity.Ā
But this experience reminded me of something important:
āØNowadays things are changing too quickly.
Things can come and go within days.Ā
I learn to adjust my mindset to move on quickly and don't drill on it.
āØNothing is really confirmed until the finishing line.
⨠Never celebrate too early. Only celebrate once youāve crossed the finishing line.
In recruitment, last-minute changes are becoming more common.Ā
Teams restructure, budgets shift, priorities change.Ā
Itās extremely frustrating, but itās also part of the reality I already embrace.
The takeaway?Ā
Stay resilient. Keep moving forward. Deals may fall through, but the lessons stay with us.
Maximise your opportunities.Ā
š Have you experienced last-minute changes like this in your work? How do you handle them?
