One of my childhood goals has always been to outperform my parents.Ā
But recently, during a conversation with my mentor, he asked me a tough question:Ā
āIn what way do you want to outperform them?ā
That question stopped me in my tracks.
š° Financially?Ā
Salaryāwise, I earn more than my parents did at my age.Ā
But net worth? Theyāre ahead, thanks to riding the property market.
š Careerāwise?Ā
Do I measure success by how senior I am compared to them in their industries?
šļø Freedom & Autonomy?Ā
Is outperforming them about having more control over my time and choices?
š Happiness?Ā
Or is it about living a life where I donāt have to wake up at a set time, and can spend my days doing what I truly enjoy?
It made me realize: success is multidimensional.
My brother and I often debate this.Ā
He wants a fancier lifestyle, while Iāve always said I donāt need a lot of money.
Just enough to get by.Ā
For me, the ideal life is about time, freedom, and choice.
š Takeaway: Outperforming isnāt just about numbers. Itās about defining success on your own terms.
š¬ I would love to hear your thoughts:
- How do you measure success in your own life?
- Is it wealth, career status, freedom, or happiness?
